CASA BRUTUS - Issue 283, November 2023
Casa Brutus is a monthly lifestyle magazine that features various themes to help readers enjoy their life.
The theme of issue 283 is “Frank Lloyd Wright and Japan”
Of the three major architects in the world, Frank Lloyd Wright is the one with the deepest ties to Japan. His first hotel building, and one of his masterpieces, is the 2nd generation main building of the Imperial Hotel, which is famous, but several other buildings still exist, including the Jiyu GakuenMyonichikan and the former Yamamura family residence (Yodokou Guest House). He is also an avid collector of Ukiyo-e prints, including those of Hiroshige Utagawa, and has preserved a number of buildings designed by Arata Endo, one of his leading disciples in Japan. As the fourth generation architect of the Imperial Hotel, Tsuyoshi Tane will inherit Wright's will. In October, Wright’s exhibition will be held at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, the first in Japan in 26 years. Therefore, this fall, which marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Imperial Hotel Wright Building, this is our first special feature in 22 years!
