For Bartleby Objects all leather objects are hand-made, one at a time, in their Brooklyn studio. They do their utmost to utilize the fullest yield without sacrificing quality. To this end, they purchase full hides from tanneries, carefully inspect each for weakness, markings, and discoloration, and lay out patterns accordingly. Each piece is hand-cut. Bartleby Objects leathers are expected to age, patina, and soften with use; they are water-resistant. They use Italian and American vegetable-tanned leathers, known for their durability and beautiful texture. These leathers differ from standard apparel/accessories materials in that they are dyed through (not just on the surface) and have an open texture to absorb natural oils, to become more supple with use.
