Top 10 Olympic Fashion Moments

Posted: Aug 05 2016

The line between sport and fashion is a thin one, with so many athletes, performers and spectators serving major style moments since the first Olympic ceremony in 1896. We count down our fave looks from the Olympics throughout time to celebrate the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro!

10. Dapper Becks kicks off the 2012 Summer Olympics

David Beckham looks slick while carrying a lit torch in celebration of the opening of the last Olympics in London. Becks wears a classic charcoal suit with subtle gold details, which coincidentally matches the gold torch he's carrying. We see what you did there, Dave!

9. Ryan Lochte's Grill at the London Olympics

This is no doubt one of those "so bad it's good" fashion moments. When accepting his gold medal, Ryan flashed his iced-out Americana inspired grill, created by none other than cringe-worthy grill master Paul Wall. He claimed the grill was worn to show off his "personality", but we think this fashion fail shows Ry-Ry should stick to wearing gold around his neck rather than in his mouth.

8. Bill Gates giving us serious dad-vibes while watching the swimming at the London 2012 Olympics

There's no one who delivers "norm-core" better than richest-tech-dude-ever Mr. Bill Gates. He wears a zip front mock neck (probs J.W Anderson) and licensed Olympics merch to show he's down with sports, and he actually looks pretty damn chill doing it.

7. Peggy Fleming at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City

Gold Medalist Peggy's lime skater dress will go down as one of the cutest looks in Olympic history. Her next-level wardrobe doesn't end there — Peggy is known for her ultra-feminine and unique costume choices, including this adorable pink, peter-pan collared number.

6. Spice Girls reunion at the London 2012 Olympics

Our fave OG girl-group The Spice Girls reunited to perform their ~hitz~ at the Olympics while wearing major rainbow looks, except for Posh who stayed true to herself and wore an all-black bodycon look. Oh, and Scary Spice A.K.A Mel B wore a glitzy, transparent body sock. Stop right now!

5. Kate Moss et supermodel army at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony

Ok, is there anything Kate can't do? She turned the most major sporting event in history into her own personal catwalk with other legendary super-mod pals Naomi Campbell, Georgia May Jagger (and others) wearing a very luxe and *understated* floor length, fully sequined Alexander McQueen Gown.

4. Jesse Owens and Helen Stephens wearing cute matching sweaters at the 1936 Berlin Olympics

These two running superstars look chill as hell while they hang and talk *sports* at the Berlin Olympics. Jesse looks pretty rested considering he just casually broke five world records shortly before this pic was taken... no big deal

3. Flo-jo's perfectly manicured red, white and blue nails at the 1988 South Korea Olympics

Speed Demon Florence Joyner took time out of her busy schedule of practicing track to paint her acrylic claws red, white and blue to rep her country (and match her super sassy red belted leotard). She obviously took home three very cool gold medals and she currently holds two world race records. Go Flo!

2. Johnny Weir at the Winter 2010 Olympics wearing an entire rose garden upon his head

The bronze Medal winning Figure Skater absolutely nailed the winter angel look in a divine lacy and sparkly ensemble and lush flower headpiece at the finals in 2010. Although the fantastically flamboyant fashionista missed out on gold, his constant ability to push the boundaries of dress for male athletes is a big win.

1. Serena and Venus Williams for Sports Illustrated before the Sydney 2000 Olympics

Are you kidding me? Who knew American Flags could have so many uses. Here, Serena and Venus A.K.A the world's most legendary female tennis players are serving seriously sexy looks and paying tribute to their nation while they're at it. Bravo, ladies.
